August is the last (un)official month of the summer where many children are still on summer break and the working world is for the most part decidedly operating at a more leisurely pace. I tend to savor the long, hot days of this month with a cool dip in the ocean, engaging beach reads and easy recipes for entertaining in warmer temps. Fireflies dot the evening sky when the sun goes down as we dine under the stars. Crickets, cicadas and other creatures create a relaxed ambience that I can still hear in my mind even a few months into autumn.

Enjoy these hazy lazy days of summer and be on the lookout for simple recipes if you’re up to the task.
