Punch became popular in the 17th century after being discovered by sailors in the British East India Company who imbibed the concoction of varying ingredients during their lengthy sea voyages. The Jamaican Rum Punch cocktail gained notoriety when Jamaican rum was used in place of other alcohol in punch.

Ingredients:

1.5 oz white rum
1.5 oz dark rum

3 oz pineapple juice
2 oz orange juice
¼ oz lime juice
¼ oz grenadine – or to taste
Lime or fruit slice for garnish

Pour all ingredients into an ice filled cocktail shaker and shake vigorously. Pour into a glass and serve. Garnish with lime or fruit slices.

To make Grenadine:

Grenadine is simply 1 part simple syrup to 1 part pomegranate juice.

For the syrup, mix 1 cup water and 1 cup sugar in a small pan. Heat over medium-low heat until sugar is dissolved. Allow to cool slightly. Add 1 cup of pomegranate juice to the syrup, stirring to blend. Add slightly more juice for color if desired.

Cheers!
